Dinner & Storytelling

Please join us for a memorable night of dinner and
(counter)storytelling on Friday, October 11th from 7-9.

This will be a great opportunity to connect with old and new friends.
We'll enjoy a plated dinner at the hotel followed by an evening of
(counter)storytelling. We will learn about each other and deepen our
shared interests in emerging adulthood through counternarratives from
emerging adults who have found themselves too often cast to the
margins of the field and wider society.

For those interested in sharing their (counter)stories, we welcome
your submissions.

How do I submit a story?
1.    Consider your unique experiences as an emerging adult, what
stereotype(s) you faced, and the ways in which you resisted,
persisted, thrived, etc.? In contrast to the story that others and/or
society told about you, consider and tell your own story about
yourself, your experiences, your family, culture, etc.
2.    Write a brief summary (3-4 sentences) that states the beginning,
middle, and end of your story.
3.    Tell us what makes your story a counter-story in 1-3 sentences.
4.    Email that summary to coordinator@ssea.org prior to the

The deadline for submitting a story is October 1st, 2019. Those whose
stories are selected for the show will be notified prior to the
conference and receive support before the show.

Other Important Information and Tips
1.    Stories are true and personal. If stories are not true to your
experience or yours to tell, it's not the type of story that fits
this call for storytellers.
2.    The event will present oral stories, which are not the same as a
written story, TED talk, or stand-up routine.
3.    The storytelling event will be recorded (video and audio). After
the event, storytellers who provide permission will have videos of
their stories shared on the SSEA website.
4.    You can see examples of past storytelling events here:
